Back to "Jack"

My interest in making a marionette has grown through a few weeks of other interruptions and confusion. This character has seemed like "Jack" from the early stages, so I have named him Jack B. Nimble.   I've been working on the joints - waist, hips, knees and ankles.  He just wasn't nimble enough in several early attempts, but I have a couple of things figured out.

The screw eyes worked out well enough at the neck and waist as you see here.  The wood that makes the lower body got cut down several times before the legs moved freely at he hip.  Understanding this now will allow me to build up the lower body in future marionettes.  I also see that the wrist needs to be jointed instead of built onto the forearm. And I have a new idea about the knees.   After a number of failed attempts I got some pants together for him that blend the body together visually, but still allow free movement.  The stockings pull on over jointed ankles and feet with jointed toes.  No shoes.

It is time to say that Jack B. Nimble is finished and move onto another (new and improved) marionette. 
There are other "Jacks" awaiting my attention:  Jack B. Quick, Jack Sprat (and Mrs. Sprat), Jack in the box, and, of course, Jack (and Jill).
