How to Take Care of Your Art Doll
Doll artists use a wide variety of materials in their creations. Some of these materials may be easy to identify, but others may not show at all. You may not be able to identify what the armature or support might be, and you don't know how the joints were constructed. Some glues and paints may be waterproof, but others may only be water resistant. Ceramic clays are very sturdy, but are subject to fracture and breakage. Polymer clays are more fragile and may become brittle. It is safest to assume the greatest care will be needed.

PATINA
You have done your best to take care of your doll but it is not looking as fresh and new as it once did. Remember the story of the Velveteen Rabbit. His plush fur was worn off with love. Think of the changes to your doll as the patina of love and age.

- Standing on a secure surface or hanging safely as intended by the artist.
STORAGE
- Avoid temperature extremes.
- Wrap in acid-free tissue or soft cloth. Wrap loosely in plastic or bubble wrap.
- Avoid damp conditions.
- Inspect from time to time to be sure all is well.
CLEANING
- Inspect your doll frequently for dust and insect damage.
- Dust gently with a soft brush.
- Vacuum dust and cobwebs through a screen using a clean vacuum nozzle.
- Try a small lint roller on fabric elements.
- DO NOT use any chemicals including a dusting spray.
- Wipe a soiled area gently using a clean sponge and clear water. Always test an inconspicuous area of the doll first, before attempting a larger area..
